Her debut album as a soloist featuring the three sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach has been published in October 2017 by the new label Rubicon Classics.

Johanna Rose began playing the cello when she was 9 years old. She discovered the Viola da Gamba at the age of 17, inspired by Hille Perl and started to study in Basel at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Paolo Pandolfo and later with Vittorio Ghielmi at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano as well as at the Scuola Civica in Milan with Lorenzo Ghielmi and Rodney Prada. She has participated in master classes with Sophie Watillon, Philippe Pierlot and Jordi Savall. With the highest grade, Matrícula de Honor, Johanna Rose finished her studies with Ventura Rico in Seville.

Born in Tübingen, she found her new home in the Andalusian capital and travels from there to give concerts on stages such as the Konzerthaus Wien, Laeiszhalle, Elbphilharmonie, Teatros del Canal Madrid, Gran Teatro Nacional de Lima, Gran Teatro de Bogotá, the Quirinale of Rome and the Teatro Ponchielli Cremona, with various musicians and performing the variety of the diferent musical idioms.

Johanna Rose was involved in various Cd recordings for Glossa, Carpe Diem, Lindoro, Itinerant and Alqhai & Alqhai. Her concerts were transmitted live by Radio Nacional España, La Rai 3, WDR 3 and others. The viola da gamba player has particular interest in the work of the Bach family. As a soloist, she has been playing german music for viola da gamba and harpsichord with Javier Nuñez since 2013. She performed the viola da gamba sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach with the Italian dance company of Virgilio Sieni and the pianist Diego Maccagnola in prestigious festivals and theaters in Italy.During her time in Italy, the gambist often worked with groups like La Venexiana and Coro Constanzo Porta Cremona performing in France at ‘La Folle Journée’ as well as in Japan. In Spain, she has performed with ensembles such as More Hispano, La Orchesta Barroca de Sevilla, La Grande Chapelle, Música Prima, La Bellemont, Forma Antiqua etc and under the direction of conducters like Monica Hugget (with the orchestra of the New York Juilliard School), Rinaldo Allesandrini , The Spanish gaita player Carlos Nuñez (concert for the restoration of the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela) and others.Johanna Rose is a member of the Ensemble Accademia del Piacere (Fahmi Alqhai), with whom she gives concerts worldwide. Her debut album as a soloist, on which she has recorded the three sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach together with Javier Nuñez, has been published in October 2017 by the new label Rubicon Classics.
